You know those folks who always say “I wouldn’t change anything if I won the lottery – I’d keep working”?

I am definitely not one of those people! :)

If I won the lottery, I think I’d do the following:

  • Quit my job. But do it in an awesome fashion. I really like the commercial where the guy has the band come in and the drum says “I quit” on it.
  • Track down some of my bosses from previous jobs and tell them what I REALLY thought of them
  • Ditto for some previous co-workers.
  • Sell the house.
  • Find a temporary home for Kelsey the cat.
  • TRAVEL!!

Yes, I know there are plenty of pitfalls to winning the lottery, and everyone will ask you for money. But since this is basically fantasyland, I’ve chosen to ignore all those pesky details and just come up with the pleasant, fun stuff that I’d do if I won the lottery.

My biggest challenge would be not just sitting around all day, being lazy, and getting fat. Cause I can easily see myself falling into that pattern..

What would you do if you won the lottery? Would you keep blogging?

  1. I think I would keep working–but I’m far enough in debt that I’d start to get very ahead by doing this and paying down debt with the lottery winnings!

  2. I think it depends on how much I win as to whether I keep working. If it’s just a million, that’s hardly sustainable so I think I’d have to (in Vancouver, that’s a shack on a decent plot of land). If it were 4-5 million I would probably keep working because I am just.. that way. But I’d take soem time off, see the world, etc.

  3. I love that you included burning some bridges on your lottery winning list. I’d so want to do that with a few of my bosses too. I kinda already did that with some coworkers lol. I think I would keep on blogging, but I’d definitely be taking a different approach. I’d probably get into investment blogging just to help figure out how to get the best investment returns on that cash.

  4. I would put it into a long-term investment and live off of interest. Then travel. A lot! And eat really good food.

  5. I would also love to travel as it’s something I did many times per year before moving to Canada. I would love to eat lots of foods from around the world as I could. I would still work or volunteer or open a business or something as I just can’t sit still. Maybe I would open a gym since I love to keep fit and it doesn’t feel like work. We have mates that won 5 million dollars in lotto Max and they still work, have 2 businesses and live in the same house that they jazzed up. Yep, they do lots more that they never used to but they never shut down being real for the life of money. Cheers Mr.CBB

    • Sounds like a plan. I would definitely still want to do something – but I’d have the freedom to do something I like..

  6. Lol. Would you really track down your old bosses.

I have always said I would look after those in my life and make sure they were set, I would donate a chunk, and save the rest. I think I would still work too.

  8. We have a lottery group at work and so far all we win are free tickets, lol. If I won the lottery, I guess the first thing I would do is my happy dance. lol.

I would still keep working, because I think I would be bored. Maybe I would only work on contract or part-time and spend most of my time travelling. I would a huge chunk of my winnings to my sister and parents. I would definitely still keep blogging. I’m currently doing it for free and I still enjoy it. :)

  9. As long as it was $500,000 I would definitely NOT keep working full time. I’d switch to doing something part time or at least getting a “fun” job.
