So, here’s the story folks. I’ve had my Ipod shuffle for at least 4 years now. It’s essential for working out, or sometimes just for cleaning, or drowning out noise in general.
When I bought my shuffle, they didn’t have the clip on version of the shuffle. Like most things, they came out just *after* I bought my shuffle.
So, of course I wanted a smaller, clip on version – but I couldn’t justify buying a clip on one, when I had a perfectly good one!
So, it’s lasted quite well over the years – never had any problems with it. Until I decided to put it through the wash – and the dryer. I had pulled out my gym stuff and put it in the laundry basket – and put my shuffle in with it. I then ended up going to the gym before doing laundry so I just pulled my gym clothes back out – and promptly forgot that my shuffle was still in the laundry basket.
So, when my nice hubby went to put the laundry through, he just scooped everything out of the laundry basket and through it in the wash. The shuffle is small and light, so he didn’t even notice it. I didn’t find it til after I was taking things out of the dryer!
The earphones actually survived and still work. The shuffle – well, it seems to be charging, but if I turn it on, no noise comes out, and it makes a strange rattling nice if you shake it. I’m pretty sure it didn’t survive.
So, now I’ve finally gone ahead and bought a clip on shuffle. I’m okay with buying it – it won’t break the bank, and I use it regularly enough to justify it – I just wish I hadn’t decided to wash my other one first!
Have you ever put anything important through the wash?

I don’t ever put anything through the wash, but the boy ALWAYS does. I always find something new in there haha

Well, at least he’s consistent.
I’ve never put anything in the wash like that. Other than maybe some spare cash that had been in a pocket. But, we also have a three year old who likes to hide things and the end result is the same. He hid my wife’s iPod touch about six months ago and we have yet to find it. ;(

Kids are special that way, aren’t they? Always surprising you!
I bought the clip-on shuffle several years ago when I first went to college. I then found it in the washer when I was switching my clothes over, and was super upset because I figured it was ruined. A few days later, I tried to turn it on, and it worked !! It continued working for years until I eventually lost it many years later. I think you got more than enough use of of your old one, and it’s a great excuse to get a new one ! The clips are SO much more convenient.

Yeah, it’ll be nice not to get tangled up in my cord so much!
Still, it did last 4 years so I’d say you got your money’s worth. That’s not bad at all

Ugh, I hate that. I haven’t washed an Ipod but I have washed other important things including Greg’s wallet…and it is always a pain in the ass!

I have this habit of not checking my pockets before throwing stuff into the basket. Luckily nothing has been ruined, yet.
If you throw an electronic device in the wash by mistake, try putting it in a bag of rice to dry it out. Rice is a desiccant and is very good at absorbing moisture, kind of like those silicate packets you find in shoes. The grains of rice are also large enough to not get lodged in the ports and other openings.

Hehe..I have dropped a camera into a river. And then underneath a train. I seem to be cursed with them!
I haven’t but last summer my father-in-law dropped his 2 day old blackberry into a cooler full of wet/icy beer…it was ruined. They took pity on him and let him replace it at a discounted price though….my co-worker did the same thing as you, sent it into Apple and the replaced it for her, worth looking into?

Cheryl has gone through maybe five shuffles because even if it’s protected, somehow water seems to get in through the stuff.
I took my iPod out on a run last week and it started pouring. I turned it off immediately and didn’t try to turn it back on. When we got home I took a plastic container and filled it with rice and placed my iPod in the middle of it. I left it for two days. When I turned it on, it worked great. Phew!

Glad to hear it dried out ok!
Prior to iOS 5, the iPod branding was used for the media player included with the iPhone and iPad, a combination of the Music and Videos apps on the iPod Touch. As of iOS 5, separate apps named “Music” and “Video” are standardized across all iOS-powered products. While the iPhone and iPad have essentially the same media-player capabilities as the iPod line, they are generally treated as separate products. In the last few years, iPhone and iPad sales have overtaken those of the iPod…;:..
